Miami-Based Physician Achieves Medical Landmark: 30,000 Career Interventional Cases for Access Care

May 15, 2014

Miami, Florida. 5/15/14 – Lifeline Vascular Access, the nation’s leading provider of vascular access services to dialysis patients, is proud to congratulate Dr. Sanford “Sandy” Altman of Open Access Lifeline (Miami) for recently achieving a landmark milestone in his distinguished medical career. Since 1994, Dr. Altman has successfully performed over 30,000 interventional cases caring for the needs of dialysis patients.

As a pioneer interventionalist and expert on dialysis access, he has published and lectured in the areas of access care and management for many years. He is actively involved in access research as well as the development of innovative medical devices for dialysis patients. Dr. Altman continually strives to provide the best quality access care to his patients, something he has done in the Miami-Dade metro area for over two decades. He serves on many national committees pertaining to dialysis access care and is a lifetime member of the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP).

In 1999, Dr. Altman founded Open Access Lifeline, where he currently serves as Medical Director and Interventionalist.

“Provide the best care you can for each and every patient”, a lesson learned from his father who was also a physician, is how Dr. Altman provides care. His approach from day one was to not only obtain the best surgical result possible for his patients, but to care for them in a kind, caring and loving manner. His patients will attest that they are willing to travel great distances to receive access care provided by Dr. Altman and his team because they feel as though they are part of the Open Access Lifeline family.

According to the 2012 census, it is reported that over 6,000 people in Miami and the surrounding area require life-saving kidney dialysis each year. Hemodialysis is a method of cleaning the blood when the kidneys have failed, and for this to happen most successfully, patients require a special access to the bloodstream, called a “vascular access.” The health and success of an access contributes greatly to the health of the dialysis patient. Open Access Lifeline currently provides the highest quality, personalized vascular access services to the patients in the greater Miami area.

Open Access Lifeline, as part of the Lifeline Vascular Access system of managed centers, is accredited by The Joint Commission. The center is located at 16400 NW 2nd Avenue, Suite 101 in North Miami, 33169.
